"Art has the role in education of helping children become like themselves instead of more like everyone else. Art inspires, produces an unwillingness to settle for what we have and a desire for something better. It is the product and producer of creative activity, change; it is essential for continuous development."

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     ~ Sydney Gurewitz Clemens.

"Art is not what you see, but what you make others see."

                                                                                     ~ Edgar Degas

"Art is never finished, only abandoned."

                                                                              ~ Leonardo da Vinci

"The object of art is not to reproduce reality, but to create a reality of the same intensity."

                                                                                                                                    ~Alberto Giacometti

The Renaissance Art School is dedicated to the highest standards of draftsmanship. Our academic program for kids from 12 years old includes both visual and structural drawing. This time-tested program gives students a high degree of skills. !!!ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS: 4 hours at the studio, approx. 2-6 hours for homework a WEEK. NO refunds for missed classes - please make up your required program hours.

  • Drawing is the foundation of everything we do at school. We use sight-size technique and focus on drawing from life, we teach kids to measure and transfer correct measurements to the paper. Using the sight-size technique, students are taught to stand back from the easel and depict the subject in a proportion true to life. From the very beginning they learn to see the image as a whole. "Drawing is the 'bones' of art. You have to be able to walk before you can run." (Dion Archibald)

  • Painting at the Renaissance Art School is based on proven classical techniques. Students begin their training by working in gouache paint (various still-lifes, geometric shapes, drapes). They use the limited palette and grisaille before moving on to full color for still-lifes and landscapes. Still life is an excellent practice. Students learn color values, composition, and how to paint the different textures of wood, metal, leather, fruits and flowers. At the Renaissance Art School we favor the impressionist and realism techniques but if student prefer photo-realism we will help him with that as well. "Painting is self-discovery. Every good artist paints what he is."  (Jackson Pollock)

  • Sketching from life is very essential addition to our art education. We teach kids to see and sketch from real household objects, animals, buildings, landscapes, cityscapes and finally people. "Sketching is almost everything. It is the painter's identity, his style, his conviction, and then color is just a gift to the drawing."(Fernando Botero)

  • From Academy Class 3-4 we introduce the drawing course of Charles Bargue developed for J.L. Gèrome.  Bargue’s program was taught throughout Europe in the late 19th century: Picasso did the Bargue course in Spain and Van Gogh, in Holland.

We require an Entrance Exam Lesson for ALL kids classes!

We can not accept kids younger than 12 years of age since we believe the formal approach is not the best choice for young minds.  Students must know all geometric shapes 2D and 3D, understand meaning of "symmetry" for best experience with introductory test lesson.

For 15+students the introductory lesson is a wonderful opportunity to see if the formal approach is best for your needs.

Follow us on Facebook and Instagram - we try our best to put new students' art works weekly!
